Where to Stay: Kid friendly Bali Hotels
When we traveled Bali with our kids, we hopped all over the island. Every area of the island has its own feel, and where you stay changes your whole trip. These are the six family-friendly hotels we actually stayed in, with what we liked, what we paid and how the WiFi held up (because if you’re working on the road, that matters!).

Jimbaran: Hotel Puri Bambu
Jimbaran isn’t one of those places you have to see in Bali, but it is a perfect first or last stop because it’s only about 20 minutes from the airport. We landed late, tired and cranky, and Puri Bambu was exactly what we needed.
We paid about $75 a night on our trip (expect more now) · WiFi: very good
Kuta: Satriya Cottages
Kuta is busy, loud and a little crazy, but it’s also where you’ll find Waterbom and the beach the kids learned to boogie board on. Satriya is tucked off the main road, so you get the action without the noise at night.
We paid about $55–65 a night on our trip (expect more now) · WiFi: very good
Sanur: Prima Cottages
Sanur is the calm, grown-up side of the south coast, with flat water and a long beach path that is great for little legs and bikes. It’s also where you catch the boats to Nusa Lembongan.
We paid about $35 a night on our trip (expect more now) · WiFi: spotty
Balian Beach: Pondok Pitaya
If you want to see the quiet, wild side of Bali, head west to Balian Beach. Black sand, big surf and almost no crowds.
WiFi: spotty, and it doesn’t reach the houses at the far end of the property
Pemuteran: Amertha Bali Villas
Pemuteran, up on the northwest coast, was our kids’ favorite place in all of Bali. The snorkeling right off the beach is amazing, and the trip out to Menjangan Island is a must.
Almost $100 a night when we stayed, but breakfast and free activities kept us on budget · WiFi: very good
Ubud: Gayatri Bungalows
Ubud is the cultural heart of Bali: rice terraces, temples, the Monkey Forest, and dance performances at night. We loved it so much that we stayed nine nights.
We paid about $50 a night for 9 nights (expect more now) · WiFi: spotty and slow, but free
